USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT ONE OF THE DC AREA'S MOST BEAUTIFUL, DYNAMIC NEIGHBORHOODS

Shopping and Dining in McLean

There is no better way to shake the very last of March snow from your boots than to put on your sunglasses and head into the town of McLean to visit some of my favorite businesses and restaurants that make McLean a special place to live, work and play.

PREPPY PINK PONY (6829 Redmond Drive, McLean)

A well known McLean shop for special gifts, monogramming, stationary and much more located around the corner from Giant. Virginia Kennedy, the owner of Preppy Pink Pony, stocks a beautiful variety of unique gifts from local and nationwide vendors. The specialty at the Pony is monogramming of everything – gifts for home, children, mom, dad, clients, graduation, weddings, and special events. She also does trunk shows for a variety of vendors as ongoing events, so be sure to inquire.
Virginia helps clients prepare for their special events. She talks to brides about wedding gifts, stationary and much more. If you are planning a special upcoming event, call Virginia to make an appointment so she can give you her undivided attention. Virginia or Paula are reachable through the website WWW.PREPPYPINKPONY.COM and at 703-556-3237.

ORGANIC BUTCHER (6712 Old Dominion Drive, McLean)

For the highest quality meats in town, shop at the Organic Butcher. Don Roden has been running this supreme shop for 12 years and carries a beautiful selection of organic meats and fish. The shelves are stocked with sauces and oils, fresh breads and other healthy select foods. Don says their specialties are Berkshire pork chops, homemade sausages, local pasture raised steaks and salmon.
Stop in after 11 AM when they open and if you don’t see something, just ask. They probably have it! Don runs a very friendly, knowledgeable atmosphere, and the Organic Butcher is a staple shop on the route.
Check the website for free local delivery times and days for different towns. McLean delivery is Wednesday and Friday. Minimum order for delivery is $75. WWW.THEORGANICBUTCHEROFMCLEAN.COM

SWEETGREEN (6707 Old Dominion Drive, McLean)

Popping across the street from there to grab a fresh salad at Sweetgreen, I spoke to the manager Kevin about their favorite salad items, the Kale Caesar and the Guacamole Greens. If you are a salad lover and you haven’t stopped into Sweetgreen, it is a must! Sweetgreen was first opened in Georgetown, and now happily operating in McLean. You can build your own salad with a delicious fresh selection of lettuces, vegetables, and sauces, many sourced from local vendors and farmers. They even ask “light, medium, or heavy” for your “made-to-order” dressing coverage. My favorite salad is the Rad Thai with organic arugula, organic mesclun, bean sprouts, shredded cabbage, spicy sunflower seeds, organic carrots, cucumbers, basil, citrus shrimp, spicy cashew dressing. It is a light salad, but very filling to last me all afternoon at the office or out showing houses to clients!

PULCINELLA (6852 Old Dominion Drive, McLean)

A few blocks down is Pulcinella Italian Host Restaurant, a long standing restaurant in McLean. Pulcinella serves delicious Italian food and their wood oven pizza is the best in town! It is a great spot for families, a casual night out or carry out when you don’t feel like cooking. Pulcinella delivers as well via the Bite Squad app. Call the owner Moe at 703-893-7777 to inquire about special dinners and events, including holiday menus. Favorite dishes include lasagna, the Festa del Mare, and the oven baked salmon with mango salsa.
Pulcinella Restaurant has been the restaurant host and co-sponsor of HBC Group’s Community Charity Champions events for more than 5 years. The events take place on the second Tuesday of every month. All are welcome to attend these special evenings where we take time to give back to the community and also enjoy a wonderful Italian meal.
