What's Happening in McLean in October?


 

October is a beautiful time of year in Northern Virginia.  The sweet crisp air pushing away the September humidity.  What a cool welcome.

Our Farmer's Markets are bustling with mums and pumpkins, apple cider and apple butter, handmade soaps and fresh made pies!  

Fall colors everywhere.  All the things we love about this season are brimming.  It's a gorgeous time of year in Virginia.

Visit your local Farmer's Market McLean!

Fall Harvest Festival - though not in McLean this year, there are three locations not far.  More information can be found on their website!  More information about the farmer's market can be found at:

At the McLean Project for the Arts, the exhibit this month is by Baltimore artist Mia Halton.  Mia works with paper and clay and uses humor and metaphor to visually describe the joys, challenges and vagaries of being a human being in this world.  

The exhibit entitled Encounters: Works by Mia Halton was created during a recent residency in Puebla, Mexico.

MPAartfest 2018 "Connecting art and community" is coming up this weekend - Save the Date and bring the kids!  This is a fun filled day of art, music, food and fun!  MPAartfest is help Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 10 AM - 5 PM at McLean Central Park.  The park is located at 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd, McLean, Va 22102.

McLean Community Center 10th Annual McLean 5K Run is coming up this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 6th at 8 AM at 6631 Old Dominion Drive.  Runners of all abilities are invited to join the fun, as well as strollers and well-behaved leashed dogs!  The race features a certified course through the heart of McLean.  Proceeds benefit the McLean Community Foundation.  To register, go to www.mclean5k.com or send an inquiry email to mclean5k@mcleancenter.org.  

Tysons Biergarten Oktoberfest is being held on Saturday, October 20th from 3:00PM - 7:00PM.  This is a family and pet friendly celebration featuring live music, outdoor games, face painting, and of course delicious beer and food!  Tickets for this event are $20 if you sign up online and $30 at the door.  Oktoberfest is held at Tysons Biergarten, 8346 Leesburg Pike, Tysons, Va.  More information and tickets can be found at http://tysonsbiergarten.com/oktoberfest-finale-2/

 

 

 

 

Lizzy Conroy is partner at Huckaby Briscoe Conroy Group. Lizzy graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Economics and has served in a number of professional capacities in the Washington, DC area a first with the international trade group of Hogan Lovells, then as a marketing manager with MicroStrategy of McLean, VA. She also held business development positions with Kalmia Construction, a Maryland-based commercial construction company, and Newmark LLC, a New York City-based commercial real estate firm.

Lizzy is the 2017 American Mothers, Inc. Virginia Mother of the Year and currently serves on the AMI National Board of Directors. Lizzy is the 2005 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society National Woman of the Year and is a past member of the LLS Board of Trustees. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Northern Virginia and is a devoted member of her church, Trinity United Methodist. She is a member of River Bend Golf & Country Club, Great Falls, VA. She and her husband, Steve, live in McLean, Virginia with their two children.
